Was davon stimmt?

Internationally renowned scholars rebuke their German colleagues for years to have an allegedly too orthodox view on economic policy. Are they actually right? How lopsided are the views beyond the positions of ubiquitous spokesman Hans-Werner Sinn? And, did the financial crisis cause old paradigms to falter? To answer these questions, a systematic evaluation of all three major surveys among German economists since 2006 has been conducted and compared to earlier surveys in this brief expertise. The results show that the craft was never a hermetically closed block at its roots, but shaped by a common paradigm up to 2008 - the global financial crisis then contributed to break open this majority, however without having created a consistent new paradigm at the same time, which practitioners can use as guidance. This could be due to the fact that new approaches in economics and with policy recommendations are rather curbed than promoted by those leading German economists' with a strong public presence.... view less
