The culminating point of generativity in older women: main aspects of their life narrative

Abstract

Dieser Beitrag behandelt gängige Definitionen von Generativität und deren Veränderung im Lebenszyklus. Lebensgeschichtliche Hauptcharakteristika, die mit dem Ausdruck von Generativität einhergehen, werden herausgearbeitet. Hierzu wurden insgesamt 15 Interviews mit älteren Frauen inhaltsanalytisch ausgewertet, die im Verlauf ihres Lebens Kulminationspunkte von Generativität erfahren hatten. Als Ergebnis fanden wir eine Kontinuität von Generativität von der Kindheit bis in hohe Lebensalter; wesentlich in diesem Entwicklungsprozess war: 1. Beginn mit frühen Ausdrucksweisen von Empathie, Solidarität und Hilfsbereitschaft; 2. Erweiterung und Produktivität im Erwachsenenalter; 3. Konsolidierung generativer Errungenschaften; 4. generative Kontinuität im späten Erwachsenenalter.

This paper reviews the current definitions of generativity and its changes through the life cycle. The main characteristics of the life narratives related to the expression of generativity's culminating points are established. A content analysis of fifteen interviews with older women who had experienced the development of a culminating point of generativity during their lives is carried out. Through the qualitative analysis of the narratives, it was determined that there is a continuity of generativity from childhood to old age. Four significant moments related to this development were established: 1. start with early expressions of empathy, solidarity and helpfulness; 2. expansion and productivity in adulthood; 3. consolidation of generative achievements; 4. generative continuity during old age.

En el presente trabajo se realiza una revisión sobre definiciones actuales de la generatividad y sus cambios a lo largo del ciclo vital. Se establecen las características centrales de las narrativas vitales vinculadas a expresiones cumbre de la generatividad. Se realizó un análisis de contenido de quince entrevistas a mujeres mayores que evidenciaron un desarrollo cumbre de la generatividad a lo largo de sus vidas. A través del análisis cualitativo de las narraciones se estableció que existe una continuidad de la generatividad desde la niñez a la vejez. Se establecieron cuatro momentos relevantes vinculados a este desarrollo: 1. inicio con expresiones tempranas de empatía, solidaridad y capacidad de ayuda; 2. expansión y productividad en la adultez; 3. consolidación de logros generativos; 4. continuidad generativa en la vejez.
