Hermeneutic Sociology of Knowledge for Intercultural Understanding

Abstract

Interkulturelle Kommunikation ist eine im hohen Maße störanfällige Form kommunikativen Handelns. Sie wurde deshalb lange Zeit vorrangig unter dem Aspekt der für sie typischen Missverständnisse analysiert. Unter dem Eindruck einer zunehmenden Globalisierung, die auch Kommunikationsprozesse betrifft, rückt aber zunehmend die Frage nach den Chancen interkultureller Verständigung in den Vordergrund der wissenschaftlichen Betrachtung. In diesem Beitrag geht es darum, zunächst die Möglichkeit interkultureller Verständigung zu erörtern und aus dieser Klärung ein Gegenstandsverständnis für die empirische Rekonstruktion interkultureller Verständigungsprozesse abzuleiten. Anschließend werden dann der Anspruch und das Verfahren einer methodisch kontrollierten Rekonstruktion interkultureller Verständigungsprozesse aus der Sicht einer Hermeneutischen Wissenssoziologie beschrieben.

Intercultural communication is a form of interaction that is highly susceptible to errors. Hence, for a long time it has been studied primarily with regard to the kinds of misunderstandings that it typically produces. However, under pressure from increasing globalization, which also encompasses communication processes, questions concerning the limitations and possibilities for intercultural understanding are gaining the attention of scholars. This contribution addresses first the fundamental possibility of intercultural communication, and on this basis derives conclusions concerning how processes of intercultural understanding can be reconstructed. Finally, the attainable results and methods of a methodologically controlled reconstruction of these processes are described from the perspective of hermeneutic sociology of knowledge.

La comunicación intercultural es una forma de interacción que es altamente susceptible a los errores. Por lo tanto, durante mucho tiempo se ha estudiado principalmente con relación a los malentendidos que produce habitualmente. Sin embargo, las cuestiones relativas a las limitaciones y posibilidades para la comprensión intercultural están centrando la atención de los estudiosos bajo la presión de la creciente globalización, que también abarca los procesos de comunicación. Esta contribución se centra, en primer lugar, en las posibilidades fundamentales de la comunicación intercultural, y sobre esta base genera conclusiones acerca de cómo pueden reconstruirse los procesos de comprensión intercultural. Por último, se describen los resultados y métodos de una reconstrucción controlada metodológicamente desde la perspectiva de la sociología hermenéutica del conocimiento.
