Review Essay: Kollektives kollektiv erfassen – das Gruppendiskussionsverfahren in der Diskussion

Abstract

Das Gruppendiskussionsverfahren erfreut sich insbesondere in jüngeren qualitativen Forschungsarbeiten zunehmend größerer Beliebtheit. Peter LOOS und Burkhard SCHÄFFER beabsichtigen, mit ihrem Buch "Das Gruppendiskussionsverfahren. Theoretische Grundlagen und empirische Anwendung" sowohl eine Einführung in die methodisch-methodologischen Hintergründe des Verfahrens als auch in seine Anwendung und Analyse im Sinn der rekonstruktiven Sozialforschung zu geben, die anhand dreier Fallbeispiele – d.h. Gruppendiskussionspassagen aus Projekten mit Bundeswehrangehörigen, jungen Musikern, sowie Schülern, Lehrern und Senioren – nachvollziehbar demonstriert wird. Sie sehen das Gruppendiskussionsverfahren als eine Möglichkeit, kollektive Phänomene auch in ihrer ureigenen Form, nämlich der Artikulation in der Gruppe, zu erfassen. Den beiden Autoren gelingt es auf beeindruckende Weise, theoretische Reflektionen über das Gruppendiskussionsverfahren als sozialwissenschaftliche Methode mit Ausführungen zur Forschungspraxis zu verknüpfen und Einblicke in das eigene Interpretationsvorgehen zu geben. Sie liefern damit ein gelungenes Einführungsbuch für all jene, die sich über das Verfahren informieren bzw. mit ihm arbeiten wollen.

The group discussion method enjoys an increasing popularity, especially in more recent qualitative research. With their book The Method of Group Discussion. Theoretical Basics and Empirical Application Peter LOOS and Burkhard SCHÄFFER intend both an introduction to the methodological background of the method and to its use and analysis in the sense of reconstructive social research that is demonstrated in three case studies (text passages from group discussions with soldiers, young musicians, as well as pupils, teachers and senior citizens). In doing so, they delimit the group discussion method to the group conversation and the group interview. They see the group discussion method as a possibility to grasp collective phenomena in their inchoate form, namely the articulation of the group. In about 100 pages the authors provide a comprehensive and easily intelligible introduction to the basics and principles of the group discussion method and the practice of its application. The Method of Group Discussion. Theoretical Basics and Empirical Application is an excellent introductory book for anybody who wants to be informed about the method or wants to work with it.

El proceso de discusión grupal goza de una creciente popularidad especialmente en los trabajos de investigación cualitativa más reciente. Con su libro "El proceso de discusión grupal. Basamentos teóricos y aplicación empírica" Peter LOOS y Burkhard SCHÄFFER intentan brindar una introducción a las bases metódicas y metodológicas del proceso como también su aplicación y análisis según la acepción de la investigación social reconstructiva. Esto se demuestra comprensiblemente por medio de tres ejemplos de casos (es decir pasajes de discusión grupal de proyectos con soldados, jóvenes músicos, como alumnos de escuela, maestros y personas de la tercera edad). Ellos ven el proceso de discusión grupal como una posibilidad también de comprender fenómenos colectivos en su forma inherente, a saber la articulación en el grupo. Ambos autores consiguen relacionar de manera llamativa reflexiones teóricas sobre el proceso de discusión grupal como método de ciencia social con declaraciones sobre la praxis investigativa y dar una mirada en el proceso de investigación propio.Con esto ellos brindan un exitoso libro introductorio para todos aquellos que quieran informarse sobre el proceso y trabajar con él.
