Abstract

Das vorliegende Methodenlehrbuch von Christian SEIPEL und Peter RIEKER behandelt quantitative und qualitative Forschungslogik und Forschungsverfahren. In allen Kapiteln geht es neben der jeweiligen Darstellung auch um den Vergleich zur jeweils anderen Forschungstradition. Dabei können die Autoren große Unterschiede oft relativieren. Das letzte Kapitel konzentriert sich noch deutlicher auf die Möglichkeiten und Probleme der Methodenkombination und -integration. Damit unternimmt das Buch trotz einiger Schwierigkeiten im Detail einen wichtigen Vorstoß, die Methodenoffenheit (zukünftig) Forschender zu stärken.

This textbook on empirical research methods, written by Christian SEIPEL and Peter RIEKER, deals with the logic of quantitative and qualitative research as well as different methods of empirical research. All chapters offer a description of specific research methods and a comparative perspective on both research paradigms. In this context, the authors endeavour to bridge the frequently assumed irreconcilable gap between quantitative and qualitative thinking. In particular, the last chapter of the book is dedicated to potentials and difficulties of combined methodological approaches. It is concluded that, in spite of certain caveats, this book makes a welcome contribution to the increasing demand for methodological open-mindedness of emergent social researchers.

Este libro de texto sobre métodos de investigación empíricos, escrito por Christian SEIPEL y Peter RIEKER, trata sobre la lógica de investigación cuantitativa y cualitativa así como de distintos métodos de investigación empírica. Todos los capítulos muestran una descripción de métodos de investigación específicos y una perspectiva comparada de los dos paradigmas. En este contexto, los autores procuran superar la diferencia irreconciliable habitualmente asumida entre el pensamiento cualitativo y cuantitativo. En particular, el último capítulo del libro se dedica a las potencialidades y dificultades de combinar las aproximaciones metodológicas. Se concluye que, a pesar de ciertos vacíos, este libro es una contribución que es bienvenida para la creciente demanda de los investigadores sociales emergentes con mentes metodológicamente abiertas.
