In zehn Kapiteln spannen die Autorin und die Autoren einen weiten Bogen: Polizeisoziologie wird im Kanon wissenschaftlicher Disziplinen verortet, die Polizei und ihre Entwicklung werden beschrieben und ihre Beziehung zur Öffentlichkeit analysiert. Der Stellenwert von Frauen und Menschen mit Migrationshintergrund in einem traditionellerweise männlich geprägten Berufsfeld wird diskutiert.
