The Internet provides a space for feminist negotiations and ideas but, at the same time, it opens at least as much space for the spread of anti-democratic discourses, including anti-feminism which spread online; including via websites of the men’s rights movement. Conspiracy ideology also increasingly appears in such spaces, not least due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In antifeminist discourses there exists a direct intersection with conspiracy ideology. Based on this intersection, the present article examines how German speaking antifeminist websites use conspiracy ideology claims and narratives in the discussion of the Covid-19 pandemic and discusses the parallels to antifeminist statements. To address this question, a critical discourse analysis is undertaken in the style of Siegfried Jäger. One antifeminist website is examined in detail. It becomes apparent that, in the discussion of the Covid-19 pandemic, conspiracy ideology is directly incorporated and an alleged threat to democracy is constructed. This shows parallels to the fight for liberation from an allegedly omnipotent feminism and gender in antifeminist discourses.... view less
