Japan als Vorbild der Neuen Rechten in Deutschland? Eine Analyse des Japanbilds in den Publikationen des Instituts für Staatspolitik

Abstract

Der vorliegende Beitrag beschäftigt sich mit dem Japanbild in den Medien der Neuen Rechten in Deutschland und untersucht am Beispiel von Publikationen des Instituts für Staatspolitik (IfS) die diskursive Konstruktion Japans sowie deren ideologischstrategische Funktion. Dies geschieht in einem diskursanalytischen Verfahren unter Zugrundelegung sozialkonstruktivistischer Annahmen zu Nationenbildern, welche als wirklichkeitskonstruierende Praktiken der (Selbst‐)Positionierung und Abgrenzung verstanden werden. Der Artikel arbeitet heraus, dass in den Publikationen des IfS ein überwiegend positives, aber auch von deutlicher Kritik gezeichnetes Japanbild konstruiert wird, das im Wesentlichen der Verhandlung zentraler ideologischer Ankerpunkte dient und gleichzeitig auf die Stärkung rechtsextremen Widerstands zielt. Insgesamt, so das Ergebnis der Analyse, verhandelt der Japandiskurs des IfS die Vorrangstellung der eigenen Identität - ethnisch, kulturell, sexuell, historisch und politisch.

This article deals with discourses on Japan in the media of the New Right in Germany. By using the example of publications of the Institut für Staatspolitik (IfS), it examines how Japan is depicted in far-right media and evaluates the purpose and specific (ideological and strategic) goals of the far-right writings on Japan. This is done by conducting a discourse analysis based on constructionist assumptions on national images, which are understood as social constructs and practices of (self‐)positioning and demarcation. The article highlights, that in the publications of the IfS, an image of Japan is constructed that is predominantly positive but also marked by clear criticism. Essentially, Japan serves to negotiate central ideological anchor points and, at the same time, to strengthen right-wing extremist resistance. Overall, according to the analysis, the IfS's Japan discourse negotiates the primacy of one’s own identity - ethnic, cultural, sexual, historical, and political.
