The effectiveness of interventions is of central importance in the field of health communication. In this study (N = 424), the interaction of message framing (Kahneman & Tversky, 1979; Rothman & Salovey, 1997; Tversky & Kahneman, 1981) as a message feature and regulatory focus (Higgins, 1997, 1998) ... view more
The effectiveness of interventions is of central importance in the field of health communication. In this study (N = 424), the interaction of message framing (Kahneman & Tversky, 1979; Rothman & Salovey, 1997; Tversky & Kahneman, 1981) as a message feature and regulatory focus (Higgins, 1997, 1998) as a personal disposition was experimentally examined in the context of preventive nutrition communication about sugar in processed foods. Results suggest that the promotion focus is a positive predictor of immediate persuasion effects. Moreover, the loss frame proved to be more persuasive among prevention-focused individuals (prevention-fit). In this respect, the effectiveness of nutrition communication may benefit from congruence effects through regulatory fit (Higgins, 2000, 2005).... view less
