%X This contribution analyzes the book 'En quête d’Afrique(s). Universalisme et pensée décoloniale' (In search of Africa. Universalism and decolonial thought, 2018) - which has a dialogical structure - written by the Senegalese philosopher B.S. Diagne and the French ethnologist J.-L. Amselle in the perspective of research on intercultural communication. Three main perspectives are in the centre of the contribution: on the one hand the relationship between cultural relativism and universalism whose topicality is illustrated by the instrumentalization, by autocratic regimes, of positions defending cultural relativism; on the other hand the role of translation which B.S. Diagne characterizes by the somewhat ambiguous concept of the ‘universality of translation’; and finally the dynamics of intercultural processes of translation and adaptation which are reflected in the reception, but also in the increasing criticism concerning western values considered as universal. %C DEU %G de %9 Zeitschriftenartikel %W GESIS - http://www.gesis.org %~ SSOAR - http://www.ssoar.info
