%X In 2002, in the period preceding the realization of extensive coastal protection measures on the
west coast of the island of Darss in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, archaeological investigations of a nineteenth-century shipwreck were carried out off the village of Ahrenshoop. In several excavation sections, important details of the ship’s construction were recorded and documented. On the basis of the investigation, intensive archival research led to the identification of the vessel as the British brig Water Nymph and shed light on interesting facts concerning life on board a typical nineteenth-century merchant vessel as well as its later loss off the coast of the German empire.
