This article examines the position of the service sciences that current service systems (or service ecosystems) are characterized by harmonic cooperation of their participants. With regard to the case of hacking in-app-purchases, two conclusions can be made: Firstly, that the results of the presented research support the findings of social science service research, that services are characterized by an incongruence of the interests of the participants (rather than a congruence of interests). This often leads to conflict-ridden negotiations between the participants. Secondly, that modern society is shaped by many socio-technical arrangements (like the app store) that continuously evoke unanticipated side-effects. Dealing with this kind of potential destabilization is characteristical for the current technological and economic development. We therefore suggest, that further service research focuses on the microsociological foundation of the reflexivity of social phenomena as a core catergory of modernity.... view less
