Overtime work and working-time accounts are important instruments of working-time flexibility in establishments to reduce or increase the working hours of employees temporarily. In the recent past, these instruments were intensively discussed and analysed against the background of the global financial and economic crisis in 2008/2009. Although empirical studies about overtime work and working-time accounts exist, there are still aspects which are not sufficiently addressed. Based on individual and establishment data, Ines Zapf addresses these aspects and analyses the labour supply and labour demand side: Existing studies of overtime work mostly only consider men and/or full-time employees. What about women, part-time employees and employees in marginal employment? So far, existing studies analyse working-time accounts on the establishment side. But what determines the employees' access to working-time accounts?... view less
