Abstract

Sowohl normative als auch positive Politische Theorie bedürfen einer methodischen Fundierung, um die Einhaltung der Ansprüche an die Wissenschaftlichkeit zu gewährleisten. Hierbei kommt der Logik eine Schlüsselrolle zu, da sie einerseits bei der formalen Analyse von Institutionen selbst als Untersuchungsmethode eingesetzt wird und sie andererseits ein Instrument der Selbstdisziplinierung zur Überprüfung der entwickelten Argumentation darstellt. Aber auch zumindest rudimentäre Kenntnisse empirischer Methoden sind notwendig, wenn Politische Theorie auf empirische Erkenntnisse anderer Fächer zurückgreift.

Normative as well as positive political theory need to be grounded in methodology in order to ascertain that they meet certain scientific criteria. In this regard, logic plays a key role, for on the one hand it is being used as a research method on its own for the formal analysis of institutions, on the other hand it is a tool for double-checking the line of argument one has developed. Furthermore, at least a basic level of knowledge of empirical methods is required when political theory makes use of empirical results from neighboring disciplines.
