Charles GOODWIN gilt als einer der Pioniere der sozialen Interaktionsforschung. In seinem letzten Buch "Co-Operative Action" arrangiert er seine bisherigen Publikationen neu in Hinblick auf ein Konzept, das einen radical turn in anthropology zur Folge haben könnte, denn seine ko-operative Handlungskonzeption deckt nicht nur die Praktiken der Moment-für-Moment-Aushandlungen in Face-to-Face-Interaktionen ab. Sein Ansatz umfasst vielmehr auch Handlungen mit sogenannten abwesenden Vorgänger/innen, deren vorausgegangenes Tun in Form von hinterlassener Materialität oder Wissensbeständen Auswirkungen auf die Handlungen der Interagierenden im Hier und Jetzt hat. Indem er das Paradigma der Kopräsenz verlässt, wird es möglich, Situationen zu beschreiben, deren Teilnehmende unterschiedliche Anwesenheitsstatus (räumlich und zeitlich) innehaben. In his latest book, he arranges his previous publications so as to provide a framework that could result in a "radical turn in anthropology." Co-operative action provides a mechanism for the accumulation and reuse of materials from previous actions on a moment-by-moment-basis, while simultaneously enabling researchers to reach behind the paradigm of co-presence.
