Singularität und Verschmelzung: Rosanvallons contre-démocratie und der Wandel des demokratischen Imaginären

Abstract

Pierre Rosanvallon liefert mit seinen Ausführungen zur contre-démocratie eine hellsichtige Analyse des gegenwärtigen Wandels westlicher Demokratien. Zahllose Beispiele der jüngsten Vergangenheit sprechen für die These, dass im "Zeitalter des Misstrauens" (Rosanvallon) die BürgerInnen nicht in eine allgemeine politische Apathie verfallen, sondern politisches Engagement vielmehr in erster Linie gegen die etablierten Institutionen und Akteure gerichtet ist. Lediglich angedeutet bleibt hingegen bei Rosanvallon die Dimension des Imaginären, jener Bilder und Vorstellungen, die dem Demokratieverständnis zugrunde liegen. Der Beitrag argumentiert unter Rekurs auf Gilbert Durand, dass die Prominenz von contre-démocratie ein Indiz ist für einen tiefgreifenden Wandel des Imaginären. Die nunmehr prominenten Bilder und Vorstellungen, die das Demokratieverständnis informieren, sind nicht mehr jene der repräsentativen Demokratie und nur noch bedingt mit dieser kompatibel. An so unterschiedlichen Akteuren der contre-démocratie wie der Piratenpartei oder PEGIDA lässt sich dieser Wandel nachvollziehen.

With his concept of contre-démocratie, Pierre Rosanvallon provides a lucid analysis of contemporary transformation processes in Western democracies. Numerous recent examples attest to his observations of democracy in an 'Age of Distrust': There is probably no general political apathy, but rather civic activism is nowadays first and foremost directed against the political establishment. Rosanvallon does only hint at the dimension of the imaginary, at the images that particular concepts of democracy draw upon. This article considers the prevalence of contre-démocratie as an indication of a fundamental transformation of the imaginary. This new imaginary differs significantly from the one which accompanied the rise of representative democracy. What is more, this imaginary is only to a limited extent compatible with representative democracy. Phenomena as diverse as the Pirate-Parties or PEGIDA second the transformation of the imaginary.
