Gangsta-Rap wird als popkulturelle Bühne und umkämpfter Ort betrachtet, an dem sich die Protagonisten vor dem Hintergrund gesellschaftlich kursierender Stereotype und Zuschreibungen positionieren. In diesem Sinne interpretieren wir die bild- und textbasierten Inszenierungen als Produkte der Verhandlung von Kategorien wie Geschlecht, Ethnizität und Klasse. In ästhetisierter Form wirken die Performances auf die Gesellschaft zurück - mit dem Effekt einer polarisierenden Diskussion.The article focuses on the speaker position of the German Gangsta-Rapper with a migrational background from a cultural sociological perspective. We thereby concentrate on the subject’s performative opportunities within a normative subcultural discourse that is embedded in larger sociocultural discourses. In this context we consider Gangsta Rap a) as a popcultural stage and b) as a place of competition where the protagonists establish themselves with reference to socially grounded stereotype attributions. On the one hand we interpret the image- and text based rap performances as a result of the interplay of social categories (gender, ethnicity and class). On the other hand the aestheticized performances themselves have an impact on society: they promote a polarizing discussion.}, keywords = {Subjekt; subject; Diskurs; discourse; Popkultur; pop culture; Rap; rap; Inszenierung; staging; Stereotyp; stereotype; Stigmatisierung; stigmatization; Migrationshintergrund; migration background; Männlichkeit; masculinity; Subkultur; subculture}}
