Auf der Suche nach einer neuen politischen Agenda: die französische Linke ein Jahr vor den Präsidentschaftswahlen

Abstract

Im Vorfeld der Präsidentschaftswahlen in Frankreich macht die Parti socialiste den Eindruck einer sowohl ideologisch als auch organisatorisch angeschlagenen Partei. Sie hat es nicht vermocht, von der Finanzkrise selbst oder von der durch die Krise ausgelösten Kritik am globalisierten Kapitalismus politisch zu profitieren. Das Verfahren der Vorwahlen zur Bestimmung eines Präsidentschaftskandidaten birgt die Gefahren einer Abwertung der Parteibasis und stellt somit das Selbstverständnis der Partei als politischer Schmelztiegel und Ort der Auseinandersetzung in Frage. Die PS gibt keine klaren Antworten auf die Frage, die sich angesichts der Debatte innerhalb der eigenen Partei um das Gleichgewicht zwischen Wettbewerbsfähigkeit und sozialer Umverteilung in einem Kontext stellt, der von der Krise der öffentlichen Finanzen, der Zuspitzung sozialer Ungleichheit und einer zunehmenden Gefahr des sozialen Abstiegs von großen Bevölkerungsschichten geprägt ist. Die politische Landschaft im linken Spektrum außerhalb der PS hat sich seit 2007 grundlegend verändert. Trotz der zu erwartenden Konkurrenz im ersten Wahlgang ist ein Zusammenschluss der Linken im zweiten Wahlgang zugunsten des sozialistischen Kandidaten wahrscheinlich.

In the run-up to the presidential elections in France, the Parti socialiste (PS) gives the impression of a tarnished party in both ideological and organizational sense. The party was not capable of gaining political benefit from the financial crisis itself or from the criticism on global capitalism caused by the crisis. The procedure of primary elections in order to appoint the candidate for the presidential elections carries the inherent danger of degradation of the party base. Thus, it challenges the self-conception of the party as a political melting pot and debating arena. The PS does not have any clear answers concerning the internal debate on balance between global competitiveness and social redistribution of wealth. This question is discussed in the context of a crisis of public finances, the aggravation of social inequality and the increasing danger for large sections of the population of losing social status. The political scene on the left side beyond the PS has changed dramatically since 2007. Despite the expected rivalry in the first ballot, the parties on the political left are most likely to combine forces in the second ballot in favor of one socialist candidate.
