Objective: to verify the contribution of professional Primary Health Care (PHC) supported self-care to patients with active tuberculosis (TB). Methods: quantitative study, cross-sectional conducted with 100 phc practitioners in the city of Natal /RN. We used structured instruments to collect data. Results: 80% of interviews were answered by family health unit professional's; 41% worked in the unit for more than 10 years; 44% reported great capacity for bonding and health education; 55% rated the care as reasonable. Conclusion: we feel the need to meet the patient holistically, addressing their individual social aspects and considering the health services in order to strengthen the bond between patient and professional service.... weniger
