What happens when social scientist make their own craft the object of research, in other words an ethnography of one's own research culture? Doing so, it becomes apparent that science is more than the collection of individual scientific personalities with a talent for top cognitive performances. From an autoethnographical perspective scientists are rather members of different tribal cultures replete with their own rituals. Their achievements are the result of social practices and negotiations in the field. This is no different to social-scientific intercultural research which deals with foreign cultures. What is it however that regulates the view of intercultural research, who observes whom and how and which consequences does this have on the understanding of culture, cultural difference and the self-conception of intercultural research?... view less
