(Autorenreferat)... view less

"This thesis analyses the application of the concept of social capital with regard to transforming societies in Eastern Europe. It reviews 35 books, articles and papers in this field and compares their modes of application to the unit of analysis in Eastern Europe. For this purpose, the author offers a twofold frame for analysis. It is argued that - above all - a revised concept, which entered the conceptual debate some years ago, is adequate for investigating social capital in the post-socialist countries of Eastern Europe. Its main feature lies in the differentiation of dimensions of social capital (bonding, bridging, linking). The present thesis shows that the publications introduced to the reader only partially refer to this specified kind of social capital conceptualization and turn the concept into a tool for analysis in Eastern Europe."
