"The negative perception of 'immigrant-dense' neighbourhoods and the idea of a balanced ethnic mix, or the creation of communities with a blend of residents from different housing tenures and income levels, is of common concern for contemporary housing and planning policies in many European countries, although it remains controversial whether and to what extent living among co-ethnics has a negative effect on the integration of immigrants. The paper takes a comparative look at German and Dutch strategies that attempt to break down segregation and discusses different interventions." (author's abstract)... view less
