"In keeping with current developments in European higher education, the institutions of higher education in France are experiencing a transformational process. Notably, this has caused the existence of the system dedicated to providing elite educations to be called into doubt, a system which has been firmly anchored in French society since the French Revolution. How are the French elite schools, the grandes écoles, behaving in response to this transformation? In light of these considerations, an analysis of the discourses of selfrepresentation at elite educational institutions is a fertile opportunity to better understand power-shifts and the ongoing restructuring of established hierarchies. This contribution presents exemplary results from diverse case studies based on expert interviews with individuals who are tasked with representing the École normale supérieure de la rue d'Ulm, one of the most renowned elite Parisian institutions of higher education."
