"Der mündige, souveräne Konsument hat die Macht, durch seine Kaufentscheidung das Marktangebot langfristig zu beeinflussen und damit soziale, gesellschaftliche und ökologische Verantwortung zu übernehmen. Konsumentensouveränität setzt allerdings die Verfügbarkeit relevanter Informationen voraus. Wesentliche Informationsagenten sind in diesem Zusammenhang Medien, staatliche Institutionen und Interessengruppen.
