(Autorenreferat)... view less

"The variety of organisational change in firms has enhanced the position of works councils, and increased research interest in them. In the past, research on works councils focused almost exclusively on case studies. This article is based on a representative postal survey of 726 works councils in the machine tool sector in West and East Germany. The presentation and interpretation of the results relates to the following themes: the resources available to works councils, relations with management, direct participation and Human Resource Management, workplace agreements, the future of industry agreements, and relations with unions. The article concludes with an attempt to construct a typology of works councils based on this information." (author's abstract)... view less
