(Autorenreferat)... view less

"The ongoing devolution of collective bargaining to the enterprise level in Germany has boosted research on work councils. Much attention has been given to theoretical approaches which combine the assumption of structural conflicts of interest between capital and labour with elements derived from symbolic interaction and the sociology of knowledge. The article shows that this combination is not a complete success. Whereas the understanding of human interaction in organisational environments is clear, there is a lack of any recognition of structural influences on enterprise-level codetermination. The author sees the cause of this in the micro-level research methodology." (author's abstract)... view less
