Totalitarismus- und Diktaturforschung basieren auf Vergleichen der untersuchten politischen Systeme. Im Mittelpunkt des Interesses stehen dabei gewöhnlich Elemente der Machtstruktur. Hingegen werden die Varianten des Widerstands gegen politische Verfolgung nicht oft vergleichend untersucht. Der Vergleich von Widerstand und Opposition im Nationalsozialismus und in der DDR ist jedoch aufschlussreich. Dies trifft für die Analyse von aktivem und passivem Widerstand und Opposition sowie für die Beschreibung der Entwicklungsphasen widerständigen Verhaltens zu. 'Both totalitarianism and ´modern dictatorship research are also based on the comparison of the respective political systems under analysis. Usually, in this context elements of power structure are in the focus of interest. In contrast to this, the different ways of resistance behaviour in respect of political persecution are often not taken into consideration from a comparative point of view. But particularly by the comparison of resistance and opposition during National Socialism and under the German Communist dictatorship it is possible to achieve further insights. This is true both for the analysis of resistance, opposition, refusal and for the description of the development phases of resistance behaviour.
