Esoterik, Spiritualität und die neue Suche nach Transzendenz: Erklärungsversuche

Abstract

'Das seit den achtziger Jahren zunehmende Interesse an ostasiatischen Religionen, schamanistischen Praktiken und Esoterik wird auf dem Hintergrund historischer Entwicklungen und in seiner sozialpsychologischen Funktion beleuchtet. Dabei geht es auch um die Einsicht in subjektive Motive und Beweggründe dieses Interesses, die sich im Kontext gesellschaftlicher Entwicklungen und in der Auseinandersetzung mit bzw. Distanzierung von den etablierten Kirchen entwickelt haben. Der Einfluss der Interpretationen ihrer Geschichte im feministischen und ökologischen Diskurs wird ebenso reflektiert wie die (meist unbewusste) ambivalente Bezugnahme auf die nationalsozialistische Verstrickung der Elterngeneration und damit verbundene Übertragungsphänomene zwischen den Generationen.' 'The article asks for the reasons of the increasing interest in East Asian religions, in shamanistic practices and esotericism in Western cultures since the beginning of the nineteen-eighties. The author looks for the historical background of this development as well as for its socio-psychological functions. The main focus is on the motivations for these interests and how they develop in the realm of Christian cultures and build up a critical contrast to them. Another topic is the impact of spiritual movements on feminist and ecological discourses. Furthermore, the question is raised how these interests of supporters of the new religious movements are connected to the involvement of their parents in culpable historical processes, i.e. National Socialism in Germany.'
