(Autorenreferat)... view less

"This research project focuses on teachers in Eastern Germany to explore their selfimage and their concept of teaching. The teachers have been teaching already before the political change of 1989/90, and they are still teaching now. We conceived our project principally as a triangulation of two qualitative research methods: We used the teachers' explanations to their own action in video recorded lessons. In addition, narrative interviews were conducted with the focus on the teacher’s career and biography. The target of the interview analysis was to reconstruct the teacher's perception and understanding of teaching and their self-image, plus their potential modification after the political unification. This article deals with the applied methods of data gathering and evaluation as well as the intended triangulation of perspectives, after pointing out some of the results. A case study describes the issues, also limits and problems of the chosen methodological approach." (author's abstract)... view less
