(Autorenreferat)... view less

"This paper addresses the issue of wage consequences of unemployment. The aim is to explore how the duration of unemployment as well as the total amount of unemployment experienced during the career influence wages in reemployment and how these influences change according to the respective labor market situation. The analyses on the basis of longitudinal data provided by the Forschungsdatenzentrum der Deutschen Rentenversicherung (Data Research Center of the German Pension Fund) show that an examination of individual efforts in education or job search is not sufficient in this regard. It is rather necessary to see the individual unemployment incidence in the context of the overall labor market conditions and, in particular, to consider the demand situation. The results of the study indicate growing insecurities caused by increasingly instable careers." (author's abstract)... view less
