(Autorenreferat)... weniger

'The International Socio-Economic Index of Occupational Status (ISEI) is frequently used as an indicator of socio-economic position in comparative analyses. The construction of ISEI status requires that occupations are coded according to the International Standard Classification of Occupations (ISCO-88). This occupational information has been part of the German Mikrozensus Scientific Use Files since 1996. This paper describes how ISEI can be applied to the German Mikrozensus. Associations between ISEI and a number of other socio-economic variables are also analyzed. These demonstrate that the partial correlation between ISEI and income is rather small. The findings can be seen as a contribution to assessing the potential and limitations of ISEI in analysis.' (author's abstract)|... weniger
