(Autorenreferat)... view less

"The crisis of modernity which is being experienced by a significant number of contemporary societies has a severe impact not only on individuals, but also on nearly all organizations. Their function and the way they operate is being profoundly challenged. The longterm existence and wellbeing of many organizations, therefore, increasingly depends on their preparedness and ability to learn. Organizational learning has become a crucial issue. However, in times of deep crises, it is a very difficult, often an impossible task. This paper discusses the problems of organizational learning in crisis situations using two conceptual angles: the theory of conventions and the concept of 'Leitbilder' (guiding visions). It focusses on three central questions: the definition of conventions, their genesis, and the role of 'Leitbilder' in the formation of conventions. This approach serves as the basis for a new orientation in the study of organizational learning processes and those factors enabling or hindering it. The paper attempts to demonstrate that such a conceptual perspective is of specific relevance in an organization's struggle with the current crisis of modernity." (author's abstract)... view less
