In recent years the media coverage of children and youth football in the German speaking area has been shaped by the controversy regarding parents interacting with their children when on the football pitch. The article addresses this "social arena" from a Situational Analysis perspective and explores which "social worlds" (Clarke 2012) have access to this arena and which narratives are created - data from a project will therefore be used. Newspaper and television reports between 2000 and 2018 were analysed. With sample reports it will be shown that parents in children soccer are presented as aggressors with a negative influence on their activities on the pitch. This parenthood picture matches with a romanticistic view of a child that should enjoy football without parental influence. At the end of the article it will be discussed, which function those narratives fulfill and what possibilities are coming along with the confrontation of the discoursive data with ethnographic material.... view less
