Urban planning processes are in the relationship of constantly changing global, regional and local dynamics. Therefore, considering processes as a function of time can be a key to understanding these complex contexts. Although in the planning practice the factor time is still largely ignored, some exceptions such as 'Rapid Planning' or 'Slow Urbanism' experiment with it. Thus, planning processes are either accelerated and simplified or stretched and designed open. The focus of this essay is the investigation of the slow, process-open developments of Creative Quarters in Munich and Hamburg. With the help of the temporal dimension path dependencies in the negotiation and design of urban spaces are made comprehensible in both cases.... view less
