En este artículo se plantea una de las cuestiones fundamentales sobre las que se realiza la actividad periodística y que la autora ha llamado el pacto periodístico. El pacto, celebrado entre el periodista y sus lectores, consiste en que el emisor expresa lo que sucedió tal y como lo vio y el destinatario acepta lo expresado en las mismas condiciones. El compromiso entre ambos participantes los obliga a saber y cumplir con lo estipulado en el contrato, para evitar que alguna de las partes se sienta defraudada. El periodista convierte los hechos en relato; al procesarlos los manipula, es decir, los interpreta, selecciona y organiza, los jerarquiza y los somete a las exigencias del lenguaje. This article discusses one of the fundamental questions about journalism, which the author
defines as the journalistic pact. This pact, involving the journalist and his/her readers, assumes that the spokesperson expresses the event as he/she saw it and the receptor accepts the way the event was expressed. The commitment between both obliges them to know and fulfil the contract to avoid anyone being dissatisfied. The journalist converts the facts into a story: by processing them he/she manipulates them, that is to say, he/she interprets, selects and organises, prioritises and applies linguistic criteria requirements.
