(Autorenreferat)... view less

"This paper makes the suggestion that consequences of acceleration have to be differentiated: firstly with a view to the individual life course; secondly with regard to the conditions of care for descendants; and thirdly in relation to the interdependencies between accelerated life conduct on the one hand and modified cultural patterns of designing generational differences as well as of detachment within the alternation of generations on the other. Adults tend to be drawn into a way of life marked by constant mobility, characteristically transforming the conditions of growing up and of generational change. Thus, modified time structures concern the care relationships and the temporal conditions inherent to childhood and adolescence, the cultural chronological regulation of generational succession and the individual, life course-related, gradual symbolic adoption of changing positions within the generational structure during the transition to adulthood. As part of these differentiations the relationship between coercion and an inclination towards adaptation in the context of acceleration alongside an increase of flexibility will be examined more closely."
