Die Region Mittleres Mecklenburg/ Rostock liegt im Nordosten Deutschlands zwischen den Metropolregionen Hamburg, Berlin und Kopenhagen/Malmö. Sie ist das wirtschaftliche und wissenschaftliche Zentrum des Bundeslandes Mecklenburg-Vorpommern und besitzt mit Rostock den wichtigsten Standort der maritimen Wirtschaft Mecklenburg-Vorpommerns. Die in dem Beitrag skizzierten Beispiele und Handlungsansätze einer nachhaltigen strategischen Regionalentwicklungspolitik zeigen, wie aus den Gunstfaktoren der geographischen Lage sowie den ökonomischen Herausforderungen eine Verzahnung von Leitbild, politischer Positionierung und regionalplanerischen Festlegungen entstehen kann, bis hin zu einem aktiven und fokussierten Regionalmanagement. Insbesondere die Positionierung als "Regiopole" soll eine besondere Marke für die Region im Rahmen der Metropolendiskussion erzeugen und für eine nationale und internationale Positionierung genutzt werden.... view less
The region of Central Mecklenburg/Rostock lies in the north-east of Germany between the metropolitan regions of Hamburg, Berlin and Copenhagen/Malmo. The region of Central Mecklenburg/Rostock lies in the north-east of Germany between the metropolitan regions of Hamburg, Berlin and Copenhagen/Malmo. The region is the economic and academic centre of the federal state Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, while Rostock itself is the most important location for the state’s maritime economy. The paper outlines various examples and approaches related to sustainable strategic regional development policy. These demonstrate how favourable factors related to geographical situation and economic challenges can lead to interlinking between guiding principle, political positioning and regional planning stipulations, resulting in active and focused regional management. In particular, positioning as a regional metropolis - "Regiopole" - should give the region a recognisable branding in the context of the metropolis discussion and is to be used for national and international positioning.... view less
