Objective: This study aimed in understanding the vision from the family members of a pschyatric hospital
users about home visit in mental health. Method: Descriptive qualitative study on the basis of semi
structured interview technique, carried out in 2007. Fourteen families, users of a public psychiatric hospital
in Rio de Janeiro, RJ,Brazil, participated. Results: The family front of the emotional, social and economic
overburden, consequent of the patient relapsed has reported feeling as frustration, stress and helpless
confirming the importance of the home visit as a therapeutic resource due the necessity of support and
orientations to face the related problems. Conclusion: The vision from the family members about home visit
in mental health is a therapeutic resource that contributes to prevention of crises and relapsed of the
patient minimizing psychological distress and social isolation of the group.... view less
