"This paper investigates the implications of introducing prospective payment schemes (DRGs = Diagnosis Related Groups) into the German statutory health care system. This volume is a sequal to a WZB discussion paper from October 2006 (Klinke/ Kühn 2006). In this volume the author present data and findings in more detail from the same 2004 survey among hospital physicians. Working conditions and aspects of quality of care are presented and to what extent changes in hospital funding have invoked shifts in attitude and behaviour on the part of service providers in the inpatient sector of health care services. The presented data belongs to the research project 'Change of medicine and care in the DRG-system' (WAMP), carried out by the Social Science Research Center Berlin (WZB) in collaboration with the Centre for Social Policy Research in Bremen (ZeS). This project investigates the effects of introducing a diagnosis related fixed sum (G-DRGs) reimbursement system to the German hospital sector. The project focuses on changes in working conditions of hospital staff and changes in the provision of care. The study consists of three quantitative longitudinal surveys (physicians, nurses and patients) and repeated qualitative case studies in four German hospitals. In this paper we present results from the 2004 physicians survey (W1 Quanti - Ärzte). The project is funded and/ or supported by Hans-Böckler-Stiftung, Ver.di, Gmünder Ersatzkasse (GEK) and Landesärztekammer Hessen." (author's abstract)... view less
