'Based on the difference between the logics of science and everyday life, it is argued that sociology can only unfold its enlightening potential if it refuses to be a partisan science. Suspending moral judgements is a fundamental principle of interpretative approaches in sociology. In fields of action where there are ongoing struggles between moral entrepeneurs and competing problem areas, the one who not take on the value consensus of the 'friend-enemy structure' (Hondrich) and not take the one or other side is coming along unpopular. But sociology can only go against the daily practice of protecting what is well known if refuses to take sides. Then it can open up new perspectives to a social problem and perhaps modify what is known.' (author's abstract)|... view less
