'Neuere Beiträge zur Zukunft des Wohlfahrtstaates behaupten im Prinzip zwei sehr unterschiedliche Trends. Die erste Position geht davon aus, daß der Wohlfahrtsstaat seine soziale und politische Legitimationsbasis als Folge sozialstruktureller Wandlungsprozesse verliert. Die andere Position sieht dagegen stabilisierende Effekte dieses Modernisierungsprozesses der Sozialstruktur. Nach einer Diskussion der zentralen theoretischen Argumente beider Positionen erfolgt eine Konfrontation mit empirischen Daten. After discussing the central theoretical arguments of both positions empirical data are presented to evaluate those positions.
