Wie entkörperlicht ist die Jugend der Jugendsoziologie? Argumente für eine "somatische Wende"
How disembodied is youth in youth sociology?

'In ads and youth magazines, youth is mainly associated with the positive traits of a firm and beautiful, sexy, fit body. However, German youth sociology does not see youth that way. As the contribution shows, it is dominated by an 'oversocialised' perspective of growing up in which the wide array of physical developments that turn children into youth - i.e. into young adults conscious of their body - is hardly ever researched. Though the reasons for this deficit may be reconstructed by resorting to the early history of sociology, the consequences tend to cause many 'blind spots', e.g. neglecting the aesthetic, athletic, health and histrionic ways in which teenagers live and behave. The arguments put forward in favour of a 'somatic change' in youth research should not only be taken as a call for a new orientation of youth sociology, but also as a plea for a more interdisciplinary orientation in its research topics (e.g. co-operation with developmental psychology as well as with sports and public-health sciences).'
