'The gender income gap, measuring the ratio of average male and female earnings, hides the income differences among women and men. A look at the economic macro-level, instead of focusing on the economic structures of the micro-level (the companies and the household), shows that the so called 'malus of caring responsibilities' - less income because of caring responsibilities - should be called 'malus of capitalist productivity' in a macro-economic perspective - less income resulting from activities that do not contribute to the accumulation of capital. The transformation of the welfare state to a more competitive neo-liberal state carries responsibility for the recently deteriorating incomes of many women. In order to succeed in realizing a fair income distribution and to raise the low incomes of women (and men), high capital yield shall not be allowed to be the most important goal of the economy and of job evaluation.'
