'The article focuses on measuring democracy and the quality of democracy by comparing three global (quantitative) 'macro models': Freedom House, Democracy Index and Democracy Ranking. The following research questions are crucial: how do these three initiatives differ conceptually and methodically from each other; how plausible are those three macro models of democracy measurement; how similar (or dissimilar) are the empirical measurement results of democracy and the quality of democracy? For a more comprehensive discussion of the findings, we also refer to a (pair-wise) comparison of countries and of the quality of their democracies, as it is being reported in the recent academic literature. In our assessment there appears to be a tendency of correspondence between the quality of democracy of the ('quantitative') macro models and of the (partially more 'qualitative') country-based case studies.'
